Hello Expats,
Great day for the Dalian ExPats with a crowd of about 22 + 5 or so
more coming and going. It was a pleasure to see many old friends, some
on their second visit, some new, and all interesting and full of
information and questions. It was a special pleasure to welcome Carol
and Paul Hueber now Dalianers. They are still moving in their new
home. I think Paul will survive it but Carol is getting a little tired
of directing the operation. She'll do just fine and we hope to see
them often. There are many in our family of ExPats but Carol and Paul
are special.

DALIAN, China -- While the popular idea of the "West" in China may be American culture or democracy, the true basis of Western culture comes from its foundation on the Christian Religion. Christian churches in China have a long history, and certainly vastly different stereotypes in the minds of both residents and foreign visitors.
Religion in general is also a special issue in the Middle Kingdom, which has drastic perceptions in social and political contexts.
So as a visitor, the process of attending a church in the tier two city of Dalian can be a bit complex, confusing, and perhaps a bit worrisome.
When a person thinks of sports in China,
his first thought typically turns to table tennis. China’s national sport is played
professionally and on a vast amatuer level. On the professional side, there are
four levels of competitions in China, Super League, Series A Series B and Series
C. A top professional player in China can earn 40,000 rmb. An average
professional player earns around 20,000 rmb. Dalian is known for its
achievements in placing people on the provincial and national teams. At present, there are three active Dalian national table tennis team members who take part
in the Super League and three who participate in Class A competition (Ping Jia
competition).
