Recently I had the opportunity to visit the Southeast Gallery to view the "Exhibition of Flourishing Age Vision" oil paintings byNiu Yungong. This Gallery, which opened in 2000, is relatively small with exhibit rooms on two floors. The first floor is the main exhibit of painter Niu Yungong and his very interesting use of imagination and his own dreams to create 22 paintings of women in various poses of conversation, relaxation, or just being. The facial detail is almost non-existent, allowing the viewer to fill in the detail. The colors are also very dreamlike with very few harsh colors but lots of shades of tan, putty, and taupe. The painting by Niu are valued at 20,000 to 60,000RMB with an expectation of an increase in value of 10% to 20% each year according to the Gallery owner (one of his dreams, I’m sure). The upstairs exhibit room is filled with Niu’s work from his year in St. Petersburg, Russiaand almost totally scenes from St. Petersburg.Perhaps some of our Russian members might like to have a look at his view of this historic Russian city. His assistant, DalainXpat member, Sunsea, was very helpful in explaining the exhibit, as was the artist himself.
Understanding Chinese Education: The Banzhuren and Zhirisheng
At the primary level, students are divided into classes—just like in the U.S.and other countries. However, in China, students typically stay with the same teacher throughout primary school. This teacher is known as the "banzhuren".Since this teacher will be connected to these students for six years, a very close relationship is formed between her, the student, and the student’s family—even to the point of providing a sort of family counselling.
Editor's Note: DalianXpat recently issued a call for members to submit articles and this charming article was submitted by Busqueen.
China’s marriage ceremony is very different from the western wedding. Moreover, even within China, the ceremonies are different from north to south.Because of influence from the west more young Chinese couples want to get married in a church or just simply take a honeymoon instead of holding the traditional Chinese wedding ceremony. In the rural areas in China, however, they still maintain the traditional way of holding the marriage ceremony.
Finding a wife or husband is not easy in China, especially for professionals who are very busy and do not work around members of the opposite sex.In China, there are many ways to help young adults make connections. One rather interesting way happens on the 15th and 30th of each month in Labor (Laodong) Park.
Parents of adult children gather in Labor Park to exchange information
Stamps that do not self-adhere. Rice glue. I'm in China!
In China on summer vacation means postcard obligations to your eager and sometimes nagging loved ones. Being in a Chinese city famous for a dreamy coastline and fashionable women doubles that responsibility. Finally giving in to conscience, I scouted out a post office on the first day of the Olympics.

As
many of you know the DalianXpat.com community is doubling or more
annually, and many of the procedures, guidelines, structure are simply
out-of-date. The website can not run the way it did in 2006 or 2007,
we are just too big and diverse.
TrueKid
and Boerse, both with experience running forums on other busy sites,
have offered to assist us in significant ways. They have been on site
for some time now.
Here is their plan and they are asking you to submit suggestions directly to them by PM.
