General - ORIANA ??

Post subject: ORIANA ??

I have asked this question many times, and no one knows. Is the ship Oriana back in the harbor? If not, where is it? I still saw advertisements for it, even after it listed to the port side. I thought after they welded the rupture they were going to open it back up. In July of last year was when I noticed it was missing. Does anyone know what became of it? I am just curious because I couldn't get any answers about the ship. I thought it was odd that something that big could just disappear over night and no one miss it! Haha! Copperfield must have screwed up one of his tricks.

I don't know the very latest.
It was towed away last year (May 2005?). (I think a new Oriana cruise ship has been built, but it is not the one we all love.)

Here's are some pictures (last couple are dated September 9, 2005) http://www.ssmaritime.com/oriana-1.htm

The Storm (June 2004?) http://www.ssmaritime.com/orianatdalian.htm http://www.maritimematters.com/shipnewspics2005.html (bottom)

Some background, but not the latest news: http://www.maritimematters.com/oriana.html http://www.encyclopedia-titanica.org/discus/messages/6937/87482.html?1139245975

Hiya,

The sad news is that Oriana has been completely scrapped. There are some images already linked at SSMARITIME.COM, but some more recent pictures showing a large section of the upperdeck being cleared can be seen at
http://www.oceanlinermuseum.co.uk/Oriana%20Gallery%208.htm

Apparantly for a period, the hull was left intact after the aluminium upper deck was scrapped, but the hull has now been destroyed.

Runsky had run a couple of articles previously suggesting the Xinghai Bay birth was not particularly suitable, and it was an accident waiting to happen in bad weather, suggesting it had been hastily prepared for Oriana's arrival at Dalian.

For many years, Oriana sailed between Southampton UK and Australia. Many know that whilst Oriana was a great sight at Xinghai Bay, it never really made much money, and there was talk of an Australian consortium purchasing Oriana prior to the accident to make her a static attraction there. Sadly though, the cost of renovation after the accident was far too much to consider and scrapping was the ultimate outcome. A sad end to a great ship.

William.
