hey all,
friend and i are heading to dalian for a few days at the end of the month. was hoping someone might be able to reccomend a decent hotel. nothing to fancy. but needs to be clean with western toliet and a/c. not sure which area is the best to stay in. we'll be there from 27th-30th.

I'd say this largely depends on what you want to see and do while you are in Dalian.
There are also some nice and reasonably priced hotels in the development area.
What are your plans for the stay?

everytimem i come to dalian (post olypmics even) the local hotels tell me that laowai can only stay in 4 or 5 star hotels now for our safety.
other than walking around a day looking at the old western style architecture (the slums off russian street are great-straight out of dickens)) i am hard pressed to know what recommend to a visitor of dalian proper. they'll tell you to go to the squares. bleh. like buddhist temples...if you've seen seven, you've seen them all.
with the revision of hotel/internet cafe rules dalian is now strictly a day trip for me as the new rules make it clear that they don't want weekenders.
