I am wondering, Hop my friend, if you mean Russian champagne... since there is no "Soviet" anything anymore.
Hi Scott, let me reply to you.
Here, we talk about brands as a protected name in trading, and there are many brands associated with "Soviet", and this is not related to whether the Soviet Union or Russian Empire will be revived soon or not soon.

And as a side note, anything "Soviet" was not exactly known for quality... :) Except maybe the AK and the Hind...
Well, speaking about quality, we can first define the time period, commodity group, base for quality standartization and then you can give your commentaries. All goods produced in USSR were standardized according to National Standard (GOST), and many goods were exported to socialist and non-socialist countries.
Speaking about Soviet weapons, it was tested well in China, Vietnam and Korea, and perhaps it was some of its qualities that made Kennedy John believe it could be as well tested from Cuba.
Only during the economical crisis caused by domestic political problems and low oil prices in 1980s, production was reduced and quality for some product groups did not meet the standards, but claiming that 'anything "Soviet" was not exactly known for quality', you my friend show a kind of lack of common knowledge, sorry.

Hope you are well, back in Mother Russia! Enjoy some Russian sparkling wine for me, as there is no champagne produced there! Hahaha!
As a matter of fact, unless you can prove otherwise using mutually accepted logical syllogisms, there is champagne produced in Russia, of very high quality. Namely, the Soviet Champagne brand. Whatever the French say, there is no official organization staying above both Russia and France (and Russia is not a WTO member) judging who's right or wrong, if you claim this territorial principle, you should bear in mind when this principle originated and when the production started, is this principle valid on Russian territory or not and who is again eligible to issue such principles.
