Switching from L tourist to L visiting relative? 3 Months ago
Hi,
Does anyone know how I could switch from L (tourist) visa to L (visiting relative) visa? I currently hold a L (tourist) visa and I would like to stay longer since many of my family members are here and my grandfather is ill. Please let me know what documents I need or places I need to go to.
Also, what is the cost in switching between the two types?

You will need legal documents proving relationship, in Chinese, for example Marriage Certificate. Your personal situation is not clear as you have not given enough details and unfortunately having an ill relative may not be enough to sway the PSB.

I extended my L visa today at the PSB. You need to have a Chinese bank account in your name with at least 20,000 yuan in it. Apart fro that its quite easy to do.

To Nana00,
You have three options.
1. extend your tourist visa (Category: L) for another 30 days. According to China visa policy, tourist visas can be extended twice, 30 days for each time. At present, you need some 3000 USD or an equivalent in a Chinese bank account to do that extension.
2. change your tourist visa to visiting-relative visa (Category: L). You need to provide some kinship certificate. Normally, 6-month or 12-month L can be granted.
You need to go to Exit and Entry Division of Dalian Municipal Public Security Bureau （大连市公安局出入境管理处）to do the visa.
3. turn to an agent to convert L to 3 or 6-month F visa.
In conclusion, Option 2 is the best one for you.

Do you need to produce your Chinese realtive at the PSB when you apply or just the documents and money?
