i am just so angry with all those theft cases around,that i have to make it clear to people new here or have not been stolen stuff yet here.
here is the thing!

BE CAREFUL!

i have been here only for more than a year ,but i heard so many of my friends'cellphone and other things that had been stolen from time to time!whether downtown which lots of people come and go always in a rush whenever it is.or busy streets around,or even around campus areas here near Software Park!colleges students,as far as i know,been stolen cellphones,purse,laptop......many times! and it is said to be that there are some "professionals" doing this around everyday.
i felt sorry for my friends,for losing their stuff ,but ,my cellphone was stolen too soon after i arrived the Victory Square while i was doing shopping with my friend this Saturday!!!
i do not care for the cellphone actually since i really want a new one.hehe,,what makes me really angry and mad is that i lost all my friends' telphone numbers!!!i am so lost with them all so i have to ask them one by one to add to my phone book.and i spent the whole afternoon at the China Mobile center to get a new cellphone card and also ,get my tellphone number back .

things happen,as my friends told me that just be careful next time while going to busy shopping areas and also,bus! many people got lost their things on bus!

things are not so common in my hometown,that is one thing that i found i dislike Dalian as i am from South China.

so ,what i am trying to do here is just tell everyone who has read this topic,be careful with your stuff when go out.you will never know when bad luck comes to you,the theft are terrible.

Be careful,especially at the end of the year.when someone are trying to make more money by stealing !
PS: some people also take interest in stealing foreigners,so ,guys,take much care.!

Hey Dannie, you must be hell of a country side girl have you ever been in Shenzhen or guangzhou?

In the South of China you are not afraid of thefts thats right because you have to take constantly care that you do not get killed because someone want to steal your mobile.

Dalian is about as dangerous as my toilet at home for stealing things and far less dangerous than a peaceful village in the swiss mountains. let away _____(fill in any city around the world that comes in your mind that has more than 1 million inhabitants)

Please get things a little into perspective.

couldn't agree more iso, Shenzhen has an air of menace about it with people after easy pickings. In 6 years in Dalian I have never once had a problem and feel very safe here

I too feel safe in Dalian. But we did have a friend lose her wallet to a pick-pocket at the An-Sheng Mall in Ka Fai Qu, but I will add that she was carrying her purse around with it open, not a good thing to do in any city, China or anywhere else.

I do appreciate Danny LY, reminding all that we should be careful of our stuff, just a good practice. It only takes a second for a trained thief to take something they want.

In the 5 months of being here I've seen more people being preyed on by pickpockets than I have in my entire life. I don't know whether it's because I feel that I can now pick 'them' out, 'them' usually being a very stereotypical immigrant worker.

I even caught one guy trying to steal my girlfriend's purse. I saw him reaching in from the corner of my eye and confronted him. It gets to the point where I see it so much that I've tried to stop pickpockets before they strike but that never does any good. This occurred on Youhao Lu. The other big spot is near the Mykal/Carrefour in the NW section of the city.

Anyway, from what I can tell, they work in pairs and once they've struck they will hand it off to the second individual to avoid being caught.
