in and around dalian, not too far.
any suggestions? i've heard some of the islands can be good but i've got no specifics. can anyone give me any information?

One place to consider is Dinosaur Island, or 恐龙岛。 though I'm told it's actually a peninsula... A friend of mine went camping there once, and said it was pretty cool. Not sure about specific directions, but I think it's out past Kaifaqu, maybe in Jinzhou district.
As for Jinshatan or Golden Pebble Beach (Jim, I assume this is the place you mean - I think it's the last stop) I was out there once, but maybe some of the maple leaf crew (if they're reading this) can tell you more.
There is golf there, but it seems expensive. I hear the driving range out near Ligong's north gate might be a closer cheaper alternative for anyone looking to hit some balls.
There is paintball and a shooting range out there as well, at the International hunting club. ph 87901818
