Any Xpats in the Devlopment Zone? 2 Years ago
Hi there,

I was wondering if there are any people from this website working in the Development Zone of Dalian?

I've heard there are many foreign companies out there yet I never hear names.

So if you're out there, let me know. How is the Development Zone and do you like it better then the City Center? Let me know if it is worth to go there.

Cheers!

I think the zone you want information on is called Kai Fa Chu or something.

I live in Kaifaqu. It has been a couple of years.
The area is clean, conveniently located and it's growing at a very high speed.
My office is close to the main Administration building in Jinma Road, so I do not have real options about living somewhere else.
I think Kaifaqu (or DDA, DDZ, Development Zone etc.) is cleaner and less crowded compared with downtown Dalian. To get here, a 30 minutes ride with the light train brings you to the "5 color city", which is a curious part of Kaifaqu to visit (a lot of colorful houses and commercial places characterized by very eccentric architectures). A taxi ride from downtown Dalian is between 60 and 80 RMB.
Kaifaqu is dominated by the UFO, a spaceship kind of construction on top of a hill on the sea side. The view is terrific: south the ocean, west the ports, east and north the main Kaifaqu business and living area. The place is a very popular walking spot in the evening and during the weekends.
As far as I know there are half a dozen Italians living in this aerea (I'm Italian too). We do not see each other too much but this is because I work and travel a lot.
The majority of foreigners and companies here are Japanese and Koreans. Very rare to meet Westerns in the streets.
In this area there are a lot of new constructions. Buildings, roads, squares change quickly. Real estate prices are also cheaper compared with Dalian.
The major issue here is the area is smaller compared with Dalian so opportunities, western places and English speaking people are all very limited.
Anyway, if anybody needs some additional info about Kaifaqu I'll be glad to be of some assistance.
