Hello, was talking to my friend this evening and she told me she had been robbed. Here is the copy of the transcript as to how it happened. Also what the police said about it.
be careful when on the street. I was robbed three days ago. There are many robbers here in Dalian lately.
two guys opened my car's door and robbed my purse. I lost many things, money, identity card, certificates, camera, hardware....
the car was stopped at the cross and waiting for red light. I forgot to lock the door,
When I was in Police office, I got to know that many such case happened lately. The robbers are aiming at single woman, ppls who stepped from hotels, So I think foreigner will be in danger.
I am sure things like this happen from time to time but as it seems to happen to others it is always odd when it happens to someone you know.
So single ladies be careful out there.

And another cautionary tale. An acquaintance of mine was telling me about his teenage son who was attending our prestigious M*** L*** S***. In his stay there boarding he had THREE cell phones stolen one after the other. This must have been done by people he knew! All were presents from his parents (quite rich) and all were the top-of-the-range models. His father was so upset that he nearly withdrew his son and change his entire future!
So especially be careful about leaving your mobile phone around loosely.
There is the technology to render these phones useless. Why doesn't China adopt it?

I'm sorry to hear that. Last summer we had a group of students over from Russia and two ladies got there bags stolen whilst they were walking down Jie Fang rd at rush hour. Unfortunately you have to be careful no matter which part of the world you are in.
