It was brought to my attention that an entire thread for The Hole In The Wall was deleted.
It is concerning to see threads disappear without notification in the Moderators' Forum (invisible to most, but a paper trail for moderators), especially when they contain important information.
From my hazy memory, here is the jist of what was said:
QUOTE: The Hole In The Wall was run as a partnership between an American and Irish guy. The lease of the bar was owned by the girlfriend of the American guy. Around August 2006, she decided to kick the Irish guy out of the partnership - she controlled the lease and she wanted him gone, despite the fact the bar was built on the hard work of both the American and Irish guys. The bar was thus controlled by only the American guy and his girlfriend - bad business practise at it's worse.
Various things were said suggest and disputed about an accusation that the girlfriend 'coming on' to customers asking for an expensive drink if they bought a drink for themselves.
What was clear - there was some kind of betrayal in the partnership. In the end, the lease belonged to the girlfriend, and despite verbal agreements between the American and Irish guy, the partnership was, unwillingly, abandoned by the Irish guy - he could not enter the bar again - the owner of the lease (the American's girlfriend) barred him.
The whole episode left a bitter taste in Dalian's expat community. The Hole In The Wall continues to be operated by the American and his girlfriend, though clientelle, seemingly rightfully, has slumped.
Do I remember correctly? Anyone else have something to offer?

A follow-up:
For those of you who are interested (if at all), regarding the saga of the ownership fall-out between John/Judy and Eamon (previously know as the American guy/Chinese girlfriend and the Irish guy), of The Hole In The Wall bar; let me put to rest your anxiety over this matter. An adequate monetary settlement was reached and agreed to by all parties.
It is unfortunate that this happened in the first place, as most of you will agree. But, because of one patron’s personal opinion, which he chose to air in this forum, and biased support, an issue, which should have been a private matter, became public, incensing the masses to become involved with their “opinions” and fueling the fire with unsubstantiated claims.
Blame lies with both parties in this matter. Neither did their homework (a written contract) or looked at the future implications of a failure/breakdown of the partnership, which in this case resulted in bad feelings between many.
I am personally very good friends with all parties and unfortunately was drawn into this fray, for which I could only express my honest opinions for an amicable resolution.
I wish nothing but the best for all them in the future and hope that this serves as a lesson for anyone who chooses to endeavor into a business relationship where “friendship” is at issue.

right idea but wrong part of town....instead of such a low budget "irish bar" without ever being one I think it's time one real invester comes in with some real cash and makes it happen...it is easy to see how both don't do well when both don't quite frankly have a clue about running a pub and how to keep punters interested..if I could afford to give up my very very comfortable position i would be clearinf 1000's upon 1000's of euro yes euro a week
one slighty drunk yet still far more on the financial ball paddy expat
