Yesterday I was on a bus going from Xinghai Square to Victory Square, and I noticed a new restaurant called Bavarian Beer House. It is on the left down past I-55 heading towards downtown. The awnings above the windows say "German Beer" and "German Food". Has anyone checked this place out yet? It might be a lower priced alternative to Paulaners.

I went there this weekend to try some of the food and the beer. The staff is very friendly and speaks some English. We sat outside which is pretty nice, only there is no music and that made the atmosphere a little bit dull.
The food was not so good and even though the prices are not that high (from 38 to 100RMB for a main course), I didn't think it was worth it. I was hoping for a schnitzel with some mashed patato and souer cabbage, but to my suprise the schnitzel was only available with noodle. Most of the dishes seemd to have been altered to fit the Chinese taste.
I ended up with some small sausages and some weak mashed patato. My girlfriend left half of her plate because she couldn't stumache it.
The beer was very good and the price was very reasonable. I 0.3L draft white beer was 24RMB and you could get a bottle for 20. Bit beer is only 15RMB for a bottle.
All in all I might go back for a beer sometime, but the food I won't touch again. Maybe if they would alter the menu somewhat, but even then...I just cook it better myself. I would suggest everybody to check it out though, because it is something different from most other places in Dalian.

I was there on the weekend too, and i thought it was pretty good.
Had the half chicken thingie with fries, and a beautiful bit of gravy all over it.
They seem to be pretty easy going there. For example some people who didn't want mashed potatos as a side dish had no problem switching it with something else. We also managed to convince them to let us drink a bottle of wine we brought with us. All in all, a good experience.
But I had one complaint.
I had the half chicken.
My girlfriend the half chicken as well.
But when I pieced them together, they didn't match up. WTF?

Restaurants would semi-cook or pre-cook 100s of chickens at once and finish them just prior to serving. If they cooked a half chicken from scratch it would take too long and customers would be upset. Someone else got your other half of the chicken.

Sounds like they're open to suggestions so hopefully they will get better on the food front after awhile. I will have to try it soon, and then try it again later to see.
