Moon Cake Friends and Foes. 4 Months, 1 Week ago
Whether you love or loathe moon cakes is not dependent upon your place of birth.

I happen to love moon cakes and can't get enough. I'm sad when Mid-Autumn Festival is over and no more moon cakes can be found.

However, I've met quite a few locals who absolutely can NOT stand moon cakes.

With that said...

There are three things I'd like to know:

1 - I'd like to hear from people here who don't like moon cakes.

What alternate uses have you found for this delicious Chinese delicacy?

2 - Alternatively, fans of moon cakes can tell us which one(s) is(are) your favorite(s).

3 - If you have a recipe for moon cakes and like to share it, please do.

Consider this a "Moon Cake Free-for-All."

Here's some moon cakes to share with everyone!

I like mooncakes. I like the sweet ones. I like the fruity ones. Although they are heavy, filling, and fattening, they taste great with a bag of milk. They remind me of Fig Newtons. This is why I like them.

I also like daisies too, all kinds of daisies.

I love mooncakes. It's too hard to resist them. My favourite is the ones with beef jerky in them. Sesame flavor is also very tasty.

You mean there are actually people that eat the things?

There goes my theory that only 1,000 mooncakes ever existed in Dalian....recycled amongst friends (or should that be enemies!).

Other than Heiney's hockey puck theory, perhaps they could be used as doorstops (after a month or two).

For those teachers out there working in under-funded middle schools, just rub the bottom on a cheese grater for about 10 seconds and they will make perfect blackboard dusters!

Perosnally, I just liked giving (recycling) them to my former DOS at a well know international school. It gave me great pleasure to see the smile on his face as he accepted the traditional gift. It gave me even more pleasure that I knew he then had the problem of finding a willing recipient of these stodgy (must chew thirty times) monstrosities.

And if I have offended any of the Chinese here, I make no apology. After all, I am a Scotsman who thinks that whisky was the foulest tasting drink ever invented.....(just don't mention green tea!)

Anyone who gets moon cakes and doesn't want them, just bring them to the book swap at Cafe Vienna on September 19th. I'll gladly take them.

SlapHappy, please, please, please give me any moon cakes you don't want.
