Re:DalianXpat only aimed at rich expats ??? 3 Months, 1 Week ago
I think most events are done with the best interest for both the community and local businesses in mind. If you are interested in contributing to events planning, I suggest you pm the administration and share your ideas. Actually, the places where events are held are quite beautiful and foreigner friendly and the standards are as we would expect at home which is why they are done at those places.

Events are posted by the organization hosting the event. DalianXpat is a communication vehicle. Right now, the only DalianXpat event is the Sunday Coffee at Starbucks.

I normally don't chime in when I have a negative comment about a post, but I will insert my two cents worth on this one.
DalianXpat is not only aimed at the "rich" expats.
Each person's definition of "rich" is different. If you are strictly speaking in terms of monetary value, then the events that are held and posted by the event owners are targeting a specific crowd. That targeted demographic are foriegn expats that expect a certain level of service and/or quality of food when spending their money.
There are several things available/advertised on the site that are not as expensive as others. Many bars run specials almost every weekend. There are also countless cultural events that are listed monthly.
So, saying that DalianXpat is only aimed at the "rich" expats is not a fair statement.
I ask you this question? How many times have you or anyone else searched the Xpat site for information, someone to ask a question to in the shout box, reviewed one on the maps, reviewed a restaurant, or posted something in the classifieds? And if you have how much did it cost you to use this very resourceful service?
Hmmmmmmmm, last time I checked it was free.
Can't hardly complain much about that, at least I can't.

I answer your questions :
I've searched for info a lot of time, almost every day in order to find "cheap" daily events, and I also wrote a correct post in order to find volleyball sport-mates, but nobody answered.
About the shoutbox, I've just nothing to ask in here.
Reviewed one on the maps : sorry I just don't know what you mean.
Reviewed a restaurant : I eat chinese food in small chinese popular restaurants. I doubt the expat community care about them.
Post something in the classifieds : Just no idea about what to post... tell me ?
A rich expat is for me someone who earns in China a western country's salary.
Maybe if I earned a French salary I could care about the events in "Shangri-La Hotel". But I don't, and even if I did, my friends do not.

hmmm. i get into dalian city proper about twice a month. where do the less than rich expats hangout? a change of pace is always nice. please let us in on the starving student loop. i was such for way too long and good talk is where we find it.
this forum can very well be whatever we make it. "carpe diem" and all that.
i found the "love club" once. they didn't have a cover and it was full of young westerners. but, such isn't my "scene" as i like to actually have conversations.
