i agreed with Alexis.Chu, BUT, where you can find cheap place to talk without that noising chinese making in small restaurants? Starbucks is a good place, not so expensive like I-55 cafe or amici, not so cheap like mcdonalds coffee and food, but Mc very noisy and service is terrible (why need to speak english when see laowai? its driving me crazy)

I also agree with Chu, but us younger people have to remember that this isn't a site only for students or 20 something English teachers. Dalian is experiencing a massive influx of foreign tech/industry investment. Professionals working abroad have more money than students or foreigners working for schools(duh). What person with money to spend would want to hang out at some dump when they can hang out at the shangri-la?

because dumps rock. any good suggestions for a good dump to "slum" in?

getting pawed by hookers in the shangrila area is fun about once a year. often, a "dump" is the perfect place to enjoy a bar.

i went to bobo's this week but the renovation into a dart league left me saddened. went to the paulaner for the first time. what else ya got?

I like the Hopscotch Bar. But it's not a quiet place... There is also the Sunny Night Club, the hall is pretty quiet.
But I don't actually want to find a place just in order to chat with other foreigners.
First I want to have fun, to chat comes automatically after.

After reading your reply I think that you will not enjoy your stay in China. Being broke in your country and being broke in China should not come as a surprise to you.

My reply was to address the negative comment you posted about the Xpat site that you pay nothing for. As far as answering your questions...... Well in my country we have a saying that is, "If I have to explian it you then you wouldn't understand it anyway."

If you are looking for a laid back place to have a conversation then try Bobo's Bar or Dave's Bar.

Enjoy your stay, hopefully it will be a short one for you.

I really enjoy my stay in China. I have a cool life and a lot of cool friends. That's the 2nd time I'm in Dalian. If I didn't enjoy it before, I wouldn't have come back.

But I think I might not justify myself in front of you.
