china seems obsessed with square metres. i would day that unless people are living with big families, area has very little weighting in why most foreigners would choose to rent a Chinese apartment or not, especially if half this space is "dead space", as it often is with seemingly little thought given to the internal layouts at times.

for me, modern appliances that actually work, tasteful decor/furniture and maybe a pleasant view are much more important than square metres.

and perhaps the key bit of info you need in knowing if an apartment is likely to have all this is....the year it was built. be wary of anything built before year 2000.
