What rate of pay should a university offer? 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Is the rate of pay in Dalian similar to that in Beijing? Someone told me a university should offer a minimum of 100 RMB/hour + housing allowance. Is this accurate? I have a master's degree in TESL with 10+ years experience, but haven't been teaching for a few years while I've been at home with my kids. Should any of this make a difference?
And is it common to negotiate pay on a contract?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

With a master's you should be able to get 500 RMB - 1000 RMB more per month. Most universities provide free on-campus housing but if you don't like living on campus and you ask nicely, they should provide you with a housing allowance. That said, apartments are not cheap in Dalian and you might not get a fully furnished one off campus as you would on campus.
As far as salaries go, I am not up to date with current pay packages, but I have a good feeling they are not too different from they were three years ago. My school's main campus pays 4000 RMB for 16 hours, while my campus pays 4000 RMB for 14 hours. I get paid more because I had negotiated based on my previous years of experience and that is one thing you must keep in mind: negotiate for either a higher salary, or fewer hours so you can do some part-time teaching on the side which is what I am currently also doing at the main campus for 100 RMB/hour x 4 per week. From what I hear, there are plenty of part-time positions available in Dalian.

The full time salary ranges are quite diverse with Liaoning Normal University probably the lowest payer with a 3200 package, but its for only 15 hours, and other like DUT/DUFE offering around 7000 plus per month..
They should all include housing, a 'real' visa(whatever that is nowadays), medical if you are lucky and of course you get long long holidays. about 10 - 11 weeks a year. Ensure that you are pid while on holiday.
Additional teaching starts at 100 - 150 per hour but this is depending on what you waht to do..
If you need more info. Just PM Mum...

Chinadian: 500 - 1000 RMB/hour???!!! Are you serious? Working with a local/goverment institution you are probably more likely to be offered around 90/hour, regardless of MA. I never heard of INDUSTRY training offering this much! If you can get it, good luck to ya'!
