Deano, In my experience you no need worry about number of exit or entries when you have the "Residence permit". Until the end of the "valid date" you can go out of the country and come in. As Real mamont said Z-visa might have already cancelled for you. I have a residence permit and went to my home country and came back. Before going, I also checked Dalian entry and Exit burea. They told that i no need get re-entry visa. So you are free.
