The website has a lot of information in the forums. There is a lot of disconnected information inside our own heads, and some of us may be very knowledgeable about different facets of Dalian life. Jim has kindly given me some editorial responsibility, so I'm starting to co-ordinate efforts.
Articles, covering general points of Dalian and life in Dalian, are a good way to collect this knowledge, as an anchor, to learn about something new, or to broaden/refresh one's memory.
We have already have a handful of articles, but more are needed (and will probably build themselves into a 'Guide to Dalian' as well as an easily accessable 'body of knowledge'
. The DalianXpat newsletter should get a bit more useful too!
This sticky exists as request/volunteer list to write articles. If you have something you'd like to learn more about, please make a request here. Perhaps you want to write something (budding journalist looking for exposure?!), then please do so and contact me so we can upload it.
This is a community effort, let's work together!
In terms of style, articles should remain factual and somewhat neutral in point-of-view, the forums are a great 'living resource' which can be referred to for up-to-date information and opinion. Perhaps you disagree? Make a comment.
Here's a list of possibilities:
Shopping Guide (clothes, food, others, perhaps split into different articles)
Mobile Phone Guide (talking through the various options available for different mobile phone contracts, as for actual phones, maybe...)
Restaurant Guide (just as there is a bar guide, though I wrote that so hastily) - what about restaurant reviews (I've posted to the forums rather than using the Restaurant Review utility)?
Foreign (Learning Chinese) Language Student guide?
