She may have been trying to say, "Friends, most of the time, do not make good teachers. They may not correct you when you do something wrong." If you want a teacher, pick someone you absolutely hate, that way you will learn to do it right for 2 reasons. One so they can't say anything bad about you, and two just to spite them.
