The price is not a problem. But the service is. I admit, I didn't shave when i went there. However, how I looked or dressed like should not determine the quality of service.
The only way to find out if shaved face and un-shaved face + dress have correlation to quality of service is to pay another visit in a few months.
That doesn't just happen at the Riviera (never been there), it'll happen in a lot of places, especially if you look unkempt and not asian or with someone who looks asian and they can hear you speaking English (phone, with company, etc).
Wife says they're afraid that you won't speak Chinese and they are embarassed by what little, or no, English they can speak.
I love you man(friendship wise), but I just been there and I am not happy with the service.
I don't think it's a language because I have some Chinese words..I guess I just have to go back in May, shave, put my second skin a brand name suit, bring a hot lady to try it again..
The Riviera is a restaurant that bills itself as a first class dining experience.
If you don't get top-class service then tell them you're not happy. Afterall, if you are paying big bucks for the best western food in town (as they claim), you should expect a level of service to match.
I have eaten there before and I know the the boss demands superior service from her staff. If you had spoken to her, I'm pretty sure things would have been turned around pretty damn fast!
It's still not too late to complain if you really are so unhappy about it. Give them a call!
She doesn't work there, hasn't ever worked in a restaurant, as far as I know. She just explains to me from a point of view based on her friends from University and High School (the one's who didn't major in English).
Not sure how accurate her explanations are, but she's where I get most of my Chinese culture perspective.
