May I respectfully disagree? Of course not!
I believe that NO SUBTITLES whatsoever is better - repeat the passage you can't understand until you get it - in case you REALLY cannot understand, seek help from a native speaker.
You can always read books - with the help of a good dictionary (a real dictionary, with the definitions of the words, NOTthe translation!), you will enrich your vocab.

I quite agree with Goldman's opinion, subtitles are usually not good. You pay more attention to them than to the movie, many times the translations are wrong, etc. A movie is not a book, so it does not make any sense to follow the subtitles like crazy... So maybe b4 watching the movie you can do some research about the movie, afterwards you just watch it, you can repeat those parts you do not get, etc.

i do not mean watching movie only with subs but in other language, just spanish voice and spanich subs, she mustn pay so much attention to subs, just look at for some misunderstanding, thats all )
