I remember when he first came along, it took me a while to get his humour. (I was a bit of a young fuddy in those days. Even today I don't respond well to shock humour) But yes he had that magic ability to get people to recognise the ridiculous, even when we knew it was ourselves we were laughing at.
Another great comedian went not long ago, Harvey Korman. Hope they keep each other company
