I've been offered a job at JiaoTong University in Shahekou District.

I'm after any details of the location of the uni. Is there life in this area or do you have to go downtown?

How long will it take to get downtown or any other interesting places?

Not much happening in that area. Used to be that the tram terminated down the road from there and it was a short walk, but now to get the tram down town you'll have to walk a little way to Xi'an Lu - maybe about a 20 minute walk to the terminal and then about 20 mins on tram to station.

Going the other way you could walk to the main campus of Jiaotong University and Normal University and there's a fair bit of action around that area, well, at least in terms of street markets and restaurants. A minimum fare will get you to this area and about 12/15 kuai to downtown.

Other interesting places?? Mmmmm, really depends what you're after, but downtown if you really want any decent restaurants &c.

So, will you being living on campus in Shahekou?

Wellcome to my district!

Generally the Shahekou area is a typical area for chinese colledges students, it's a total different area of the downtown, but the local students find all they need/life there, but as a foreigner, some useful infos:

-a middle shopping center New-mart at Malan Square (3 stops by tram 101 direction)west of your university

-east Carrefour Xi'an Road (2 stops on tram101, the downtown of Shahekou) where you can find almost what a foreigner want to: western restaurant,bar,Mycall,Friendship centre,Gome,Pizzahut,Holiland,DQ,Dalian Cinema Theater...

-to go to downtown, half an hour on tram. Any other interesting places, that depends on what interest you!!!


But i heard that some parts of Jiaotong U like Normal U move away to the West New Village Area by the end of the year!

I will probably be proven wrong on this, but my guess is that the campus-building near Shahekou train station is unlikely to be 'moved' any time soon. They offer specialist-connection - joint arrangements - courses there and I think there is a bit of a psychological incentive to keep the students there.

When you say you will move to Shahekou, do you mean the 19 storey buidling near the station?
