Hey everyone,
I am relocating to China and I was looking at Dalian. I use to live in Chongqing. The people of Chonqging aren't use to expats. What about the people of Dalian. Are there a lot of expats? Do they stare a lot? Are they very interested in expats? Thanks.

I just moved to Dalian a few days ago, but I've got lots of stares and smiles already. When I went to the fruit market, one of the shopkeeper ladies came out from behind her booth and started touching my blond hair in awe and discussing it with the other shopkeepers, lol. I can't understand the comments people make, but the ladies I was with told me they heard stuff like "she's pretty" or "look, there's a Russian girl."

I really have not had those problems too much, but then I guess on which part of Dalian you live in can affect the overall awe factor by the local neighbors. I live out in the software park and occassionally I get some stares but not so many as I do when I get to some of the more remote areas.
But I do admit my child being half half gets more attention then I care for. Going to dinner usually means we get free day care from the restuarant staff who seem to have an over the top interest in marching our child around and playing.

I've noticed, when I'm walking around the city or shopping, most of the Xpats here don't like to talk to each other face to face. It seems people will say anything to each other on this site, but have trouble even saying "Hi" in the streets. Anyone else have this experience, or do I just look that unfriendly
