I quite like the hot air balloon game, its good for a big class, but can be modified for smaller groups.

a bunch of people with different jobs are in a hot air balloon that is too heavy, one person must be thrown out. each person has to explain why they should not be thrown from the hot air balloon. you can then have a vote on who takes the plunge

One thing to watch out for with games. If you play games too much, or make the games the only enjoyable part of the lesson, it will be the only part of the lesson the students will want and consequently the only part they'll pay attention to. It kind of sounds like it's turning into that already when you say "Now,I have found I must use it."

I'm facing the same problem, cos I'm also a Chinese teacher.Everyday I try my best to help my intermediate students remember and use chinese words as many as they can. Most of the time the students are pretty good. But sometimes my class seems a little boring, though only a little.
I think besides traditional teaching methods, most Chinese teachers need to know more about teaching adults.Fortunately,my students help me a lot, they ofen give me good advice.

I've always been of the opinion that if you actually know what you are doing, the last people you should be asking for/getting 'advice' from is students. For the most part they have no real idea of what they need, rather than want and this can be validated by clas questioning about this sort of thing: I've had to do these course follow-up things in the past as part of delivery requirements, and there were always almost as many different suggestions as there were students in a class.

Simple: tell them what they're doing and why they're doing it; never call a learning activity a game, always refer to it as a fun learning activity aimed at ... - this way you'll also be covered when the school administration approaches you and says they have had complaints from students that you play too many games! By the way, these complaints will come from the same students who suggested a little more fun in the classes!

Well, I know some. It depends what type of games do you want. What is the focus of your lesson? Like, grammar, listening, and so forth.

I can send you some I know if you send me first a "pm".
