Music too loud for comfort, Monday, 07 January 2008

Written by Wolfbreezer   -  View all my reviews  - Top 10 Reviewer

When I first stepped in I liked the place, but as soon as I sat down for a feed, I was totally disappointed. The music was way too loud for comfort, had to shout whole night to my friends.
Food is so so... hate to compare, but I had better feed in Singapore's Paulaner, so was disappointed with this place.
Beer just doesn't taste that great even though it's freshly brewed...
Band always play the same song, so not interesting anymore, cos few times I was there, I can basically tell what songs they will play next.

One thing good about the place is the service.

Oktoberfest??? Not how I remember it, Monday, 05 November 2007

Written by sanjoket   -  View all my reviews  - Top 50 Reviewer

I went to Paulaner yesterday in high spirit for the Oktoberfest. I remembered from Shanghai the great time I had there with a roasting pig on the spit outside, everything half price and an overcrowded bar singing and dancing to German schlager music.

In Dalian I was very disappointed when I saw that Oktoberfest meant selling souvernirs and nothing else. I have to admit I didn't stay for the band as I'm not prepared to pay high Western for food in China and many with my I guess since the place was totally empty...nice Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest - Great Time, Saturday, 03 November 2007

We went for a friend's birthday last night and were treated to a 3 piece Bavarian band singing German drinking and polka songs. What a blast. The food was fantastic but I agree with the earlier comments about the beer. It was tasty but after drinking 3 liters in a few hours I should have been face down but felt almost zero effects of alcohol. All in all a great time !

Late crowd.., Friday, 04 May 2007

Written by Kymmie   -  View all my reviews  - Top 500 Reviewer

Visited the place back in mid-April 2007. Place was quiet (despite a bunch of 30 of us) and the crowd seem to trickle in at a much later hour (around 11pm?). The food was okay but service was a little hmm... wonder if its because of the language barriers or otherwise.

As for the beer, it somehow feels lighter than those I've had in Singapore's Paulaners. I had a total of 6 large light beers (the waitress called it 'yellow' beer' and didn't feel the slight bit tipsy. Usually a 'large' beer is enough to send me to sleep..

Funny to see Chinese ladies dressing up in the traditional Bavarian dresses =) Can't say I agree with the music the live band was dishing out though =))

Going Dowhhill, Friday, 30 March 2007

Written by chfeng   -  View all my reviews  - Top 500 Reviewer

In the past 8 months it seems that the quality of the food has declined. This could be attributed to new management or new chefs. We ate @ 7:30 PM on a Friday evening and the place was a ghost town; could be a seasonal occurence. Hopefully it will rebound, as I do enjoy German food.
