Japanese Flavoured Curry, Saturday, 05 January 2008

Nice place, good curry.
Too bad they don't serve garlic naan, would have been perfect, as cheese naan is too filling, can't have too many things afterwards.
The green (spinach) curry is good, however all curry reminds me of the curry I had in Japan, slightly sweet which is non indian style at all. Too mild for my liking, I'm used to authenic indian curry.

If anyone wants a more authentic indian curry, talk to the chef, and ask for spicy curry, for authentic indian curry.

Great for a crowd of 4 to 5 people, just nice for a full table for curry, beer and chit-chatting.

I don't mind visiting the place again, but I'll remember to talk to the chef for authentic indian curry with more spices

Every friday it is my ritual to wonder down to Aba Shi curry and sample their limited but tasteful menu. The staff are nothing special to be honest, I wish one girl would stop looking so damned unhappy, but they all speak moderate Japanese if that floats your boat. The food is solid, especially if you are looking for something different. I recommend the Keema with the nan. The green is better than the red or yellow. Dont bother with the mini salad, a spoonful at most. The Tandori is ok, but how can I compare when it is my Mums favorite dish. The place has ventilation problems though, just smell your clothes the next day and you will catch my drift, but it still rates as a solid restaurant in Dalian. Dont let my cynicism stop you, I am sure you will not be disappointed.

Xpat friendly restaurant, Thursday, 03 January 2008

I went here last night after reading the previous reviews. Took the cab and printed the Chinese address and the driver had no problem finding it.
First impression was already good; staff was very friendly and I loved the smile on their face.
Service was excellent.
I took chicken tandori, found out that they serve a whole leg :), rice, nan, small salad, coke and a Tsingtao beer. Cost rmb 56.
It was well worth it as it was too much for me to finish, especially the nan, on my own and was very delicious but they could have made it spicier, they gave 3 big pieces.
Definitely going back there.

enjoyable lunch, Wednesday, 12 December 2007

We are in town to "check out" Dalian before committing to live here for a few years. After arriving late last night, we selected Aba Shi Curry for lunch.

The walk was pleasant (from the Kempinski Hotel) and the directions were clear (thank you).

I ordered the green curry and my companion the tandoori chicken. Both were good. The Nan was a great accent to the meal. I am used to more spice, but the flavors were tasty. I would definitely return.

my favourite dalian restaurant, Thursday, 15 November 2007

This restaurant in Zhongshan offers the best Indian food in Chinathis side of Chungking Mansions.  The green curry is very thick andspicy, and whilst it may not be a traditional sag (spinach) masala, itis nonetheless very tasty and filling.  The nan is also the mostauthentic I have tasted since I visited the Punjab last year, not asfluffy and doughy as their British counterparts, but still very fillingand an idea accompaniment to the curry.  Price is high (for China) - 2currys, one large nan, one rice, large salad and 2 cokes came to88yuan.  However the restaurant service and ambiance are top quality soyou do feel as though you get what you pay for.  The English menu isbasic, but is still better than making random choices from a Chinesemenu (especially if you are a non-chinese character reading  veggie).  Location is good, 5 minutes walk down Yanan Lu from Zhongshan Guangchang (on the right-hand side).
English language guidebooks are also available at the reception.

Also, the restaurant spices the food according to your taste, be warned however that one 70% curry will be enough to keep you warm through the long manchurian winter.
