While this place had pretty good food, it closed this week. Not sure if it has moved to another location, but the Huang He Lu restaurant is now closed for good!!!
Having read good reviews on this site, I had great expectations when I first stepped into this restaurant. A beautifully dressed lady opened the door and we went upstairs to the private room.
Simply decorated with no opulence. We ordered so many dishes, I don't rememberall of them. We were a party of 24. Some of the memorable ones were chili crab, chow fun like dish, and curry. The rest was very ordinary. Nothing to rave about. It wasn't bad but it was just.... ok. The service, however, was impeccable.
One thing I still cannot get used to in China's warm beer. The first couple they served was ice cold. It was good to have anice cold beer after a hard day of work. But they kept bringing room temperature beer and I had to keep asking. I speak probably 15 Chinese words altogether but I do know the word "cold".
Would I go there? Probably ... maybe. I can think of other Chinese restaurants with more exciting food. Don't take me wrong. I enjoyed my time there but the food? OK and good but nothing to write home about.

Singaporean food, not bad..less oil would be geat, Thursday, 17 January 2008
Been there twice, first experience with the food wasn't so good, or should be disappointing. My second experience is much better, guess the food choice is much better.
The steamed chicken was totally out. So there goes my hainanese chicken crave...
The curry mutton, not bad, spicy.
The chilli crab, I find it not bad at all, although not exactly like what we have back home....Pepper crab is also not bad, can try.
The stewed vermicilli (fen si) with squid also taste good.
Fried penang kuay teow is good, although short of our usual clams, there were bit of local clams in it, which I guess it's okay.
The grilled squid is way too sweet for my liking, but nonetheless, the whole squid vanished, so some of my friends do love it.
Think most of the pork/ meat dishes are not that tasty as the seafood dishes...
Lesser the oil, I think most singaporeans would love the food better.
On the whole, this experience isĀ better than the last.
Won't mind eating there again, this time I do know what to order...Maybe just for the chilli crab..
Being a southeast asian, i personally feel happy that i can get these food here in dalian. Singapore delights such as chicken rice, chilli crab, black pepper crab, hokkien mee, seafood horfun is good!
Service is good, such as the bellhop who will automatically help you with stuff... The waitress are also friendly, however, waiting time of the dishes are way too slow... but i am willing to wait so long as the taste of the food is not compromised.
I frequently go there and anyone craving for SE asia food should take a visit there...
As for the comment by Bellisimo, you would rather fly to shanghai or Brisbane if you are looking for such food, then why dun you just go singapore/malaysia to eat 100% authentic taste!????? Why shanghai/ brisbane... If you are not a SE asian, then how would you know the authenticity of the food here???
I was pretty happy to find a SE Asian restaurant here in Dalian, and was not at all disappointed by the food, except for my favourite dish - the Laksa, which was really like noodles in thick gravy rather than a nice light coconut curry soup. Once they get this dish sorted out, I will be there every Sunday lunch!
The seafood is all good, especially the crabs and the fried whole fish, and it is a clean and pleasant environment with friendly service.
