Professional haircut,  Sunday, 27 January 2008

After a couple of frustrating visits to different hair salon in the city I finally found this Korean place.Very clean, the staff is very friendly and most important, they did a great job. After 2 years in Dalian I finally had a professional, decent haircut. There is one staff member speaking some English but in case there is a communication issue they’ll show you hundreds of hairstyle pictures to help you find the right one.
Price:90RMB/haircut

 Dirty!!,  Thursday, 24 January 2008

Yesterday I had my first and hopefully my last encounter with the Children’s Hospital. Entering the hospital the first thing I noticed was the strong tobacco smell. The second thing I noticed was a strong garbage smell. And the third thing was the mixture of dirty floors and decay of the building which were giving the place a very depressing look .Dr.Liu Yan which I called in advance was waiting for us and she was very professional’ helping me throughout the process. Her English is very good. Dr.Yan did the check-up in the VIP section which, even though looked much better than the rest of the hospital(almost like an oasis in the middle of the landfill), there was a thick layer of dust on everything. Obviously not too many foreigners going there. Luckily my son’s diagnosis was quite easy and he didn’t require too many investigations (other than some blood collection in a room where the only thing that looked sterile was the little blade for the ear lobe’s incision).
In conclusion, in the future I have to start looking for a different medical centre for my son, because should he require medical attention again, I definitely wouldn't go back there.

Tranquility and Relaxation 100%,  Wednesday, 23 January 2008

If I would have to describe this place in a few words I would say that it’s an oasis of tranquility and relaxation. I’ve even fallen asleep a couple of times during the treatments. The rooms, featuring Nature themes (Water, Stone, Earth. etc) have single beds and bathrooms with shower and toilet. Everything is spotless. The session lasts 1 ½ hrs and includes facial, hands mask, head and arms massage and ½ hr back and neck massage .The facial was probably the best and the most relaxing I’ve ever experienced: no bright lights on my face, no magnifiers. Only cleansers, toners and mask.Wonderful! The music, playing sounds of nature made me drift away in a place where I could still hear it, but all my senses were dimmed.
I visited this place a few times so far and I definitely recommend it.
They are using Italy-imported products which had no negative effects on my sensitive skin.
The price per session is 380 RMB but it can get as low as 150RMB if you purchase a package. The best deal is to buy a package in combination with a couple of friends.
The only downside of the place is that nobody speaks English, but the staff is very professional and friendly.

No more food,  Monday, 07 January 2008

We went to Leone's on Sunday for lunch but we've been told that they don't serve food anymore. They only have coffee and cakes. We left pretty disappointed and pretty hungry.

Better than nothing,  Monday, 07 January 2008

Despite the warm weather, last weekend we finally packed our ski gear and headed to Minghu.Last year we only tried Anbo, which wasn’t too bad but it was too far away(2hrs drive). It took us to get to Minghu exactly 1 hour(from downtown) and this was a good surprise. The resort has actually only one decent slope. It is slower but definitely much longer than Anbo’s slopes. This so-called “advanced slope” will stand for a “very easy” rating in Canada but it’s definitely better than nothing. For me (I’m not very adventurous) it was perfect. Another positive aspect about the slope was the lack of skiers. The crowd was on the bunny hills.
I took a peek at their rentals and I was impressed by the good quality of the skis and boots (Fischer).
There is also a restaurant/canteen serving a buffet lunch.
Overall we had a pretty good time. We’ll definitely plan to go back there if the weather will allow.
