Fisherman's Wharf is a good seafood restaurant. They have general seating as well as private rooms (upstairs). The seafood tanks are at the back of the general seating area on the ground floor. You can order your seafood from the seafood tanks and they also have a menu with lots of pictures of the dishes on offer. I cant remember correctly but I am quite sure that they have english on the menu too.
Many of the dishes on offer on the menu are very good. They also have good cantonese dishes. Afetr 9pm, this restaurant has dim sum, usually pushed out on carts, whilst some are displayed on buffet style tables near the entrance on the ground floor. This is just a matter of pointing to the dish you would like and signalling that you want one of them. For the more adventurous they have some marinated shell fish on offer usually and i highly recommend these. Quality of dim sum is only 6 out of 10 but its not too bad for what you can get in Dalian afetr 9pm.
Decent service, medium pricing, good environment (no fluorescent lights) and interesting menu makes this place one of my favourites in Dalian.
I went to the Shang Palace for the second time this weekend. I am glad to report that it is still good. The rmb118 for 2, unlimited dim sum deal is still on, even though we didnt go for that option.
We just ordered alacarte and the total bill came to under RMB200 for 2 people. Had some dim sum, including an interesting wasabi prawn dumplings. Wontons in hot and sour soup was also very nice. Best of all was the suckling pig mixed platter for RMB68. it consisted of some great suckling pig, as well as chicken, bar be que pork, and roast duck. All great.
Also, at the back of their menu they have a range of tea ranging from RMB 10 to RMB40 or so a cup. I opted for a RMB10 cup of jasmine tea and it was of good quality.
Finally, while you are there and if the mooncakes are still around, grab yourself a box of their 'ice skin mooncake' or 'ping bi yue ping'. RMB238 for a box of 6. Put them in the fridge when you get home and eat them straight from the fridge. Like ice cream mooncakes..... Pity mooncake time comes but once a year.
