A great way to kill an afternoon,  Monday, 24 March 2008

I've been going there regularly for beers with friends, but last weekend we decided to actually eat for a change. The sausages were amazing. Nice and light, but full of flavor. We each tried a different plate and all of us were extremely happy with the food. The only downside was the service. it was bad, but it wasn't good. They were a bit slow and didn't communicate very well, which resulted a few messed up orders. It's a bit costly, but worth the price.

Nice place, wonderful atmosphere,  Monday, 04 February 2008

It's a little hard to find, but worth the effort.
When you walk in you see standard white washed walls with a pretty nice decor with the feel of an Italian cafe. It's split into two levels with the second level set up as a balcony overlooking the first level.
The food was top notch, great pizza, really good alfredo, and decent sides.
The service was a bit slow though, it almost seemed like they forget about you after a while. Once you order, the food comes pretty quickly and the servers do a great job there.
I paid 200RMB the first time but we had some wine with the meal, and about 130 the second time, so I think the price is about what you would expect at a high end eatery.
Overall it's worth every cent.

Decent alternative to JDs,  Tuesday, 29 January 2008

Went there for opening night last week, and really had a blast.

I will admit that we did start the party before we got to the bar, but the place had some really lively music and people started coming in as the night went on.

The drink of the night was a reasonably priced bottle of Smirnoff.
Nice decor, lively music, and decent staff so all in all a decent place.
I rated the food as a 1 because i don't recall there being any food.

Decent food,  Saturday, 19 January 2008

It's a bit difficult to find, but when you get near it it's hard to miss. A big red sign with Russian all over it. When you walk, you immediately go down stairs into the dining area. Pretty nice looking, and all wood.

We went there around lunch time, and there wasn't much a crowd which was nice. The waitress came right over and gave us a menu. It's a bit hard to read some of it, as it's in Chinese and Russian, with bits of English sprinkled in for effect. The food was ok. We ordered the cheese dumplings, which were mostly cheeseless, Ukrainian Potatoes with a milk sauce, and giant meatballs. The food was decent, and came relatively quickly. Service was just ok.

The bill wasn't horrible either. I think we spent about 70RMB or so for 3 people. All in all it's an ok place if your hankering for some Russian food.

Nice quiet place,  Saturday, 19 January 2008

Located between I55 and the Bavarian beer hour on Gaoer jie, It's pretty easy to overlook this place. I was lucky enough that a friend of mine brought out here one day a few months ago. It's not too big, and tables are spread out a wee bit, giving you enough room to stretch out.

The staff here is wonderful, always checking on you to make sure you've got what you need. A couple of them can speak a very little bit of English, but not enough to do much with. The menus do have English and pictures so that helps immensely. Coffees and Teas are their thing, but they also have Ice cream related stuff and some decent choices for food. The food is ok, nothing spectacular. It does come rather quickly though, so that's nice.

The atmosphere is what makes this place shine. It's wonderfully relaxing. Nice lighting that's not too bright and definitely not dim. Their is a piano off to one side that gets a fair bit of use. They'll have some live music every hour at night. A girl playing the guitar and singing Chinese songs, then a girl that plays the piano, sometimes they have someone that plays the piano and sings as well. Nothing to loud or distracting either.

There is internet access, just like at most coffee places. usually the WiFi works fine, but I had some troubles with it last time I was there. All in All this is a fantastic place to relax, or just drag a laptop too and do some work.
