Through my employer I have been attending classes with AuShi. The Instructors work with each of our groups is twice a week for 1 hour each class. They offer to stay after class to answer questions and assist with student problems. They instructors, Shanna who has left to seek other opportunities and Sara who is our current teacher each have worked to create the learning environment that is fun, relaxed and challenging. Combined this along with a curriculum that is catered to our needs and suggestions. I have learned so much, yet still have much more I want to learn. I truly can not see going to any other school.
The down side is our little class of 16 lessons will soon come to an end. Our entire group is hoping we can get an extended to a second session. If not I will look into continuing the class on my own.
I have been to Cafe Vienna a couple of times and had not developed any type of opinion because the stops where quick in/outs. This last Friday I was a different as I was there with friends and before long even more people I know showed up. We stayed for the Friday night buffet and it was great. Unfortunately the buffet has gotten so popular that the food was gone in minutes, which everyone hopes with the buffet popularity will change next week. The beer is price reasonable, plus the beer they have on tap is good.
The music is good, however I did not ask if I could play some tunes from my IPOD, maybe I will nest week as it is usually in my pocket. The Staff speaks English and is friendly, but I am still trying out my Mandarin. Mixed drinks could be improved, but until then I will stick with the Beer and food for now.
Had a Phillie steak and cheese Pizza last night. It was great. The price is what you would expect for western food here. Eddie's is a small taste of home.
Man I went there today and well, do not plan on going back. We ordered the fish curry, Roti, Chicken lolly pop (which is chicken wings), veggies and salad.
The veggies and Chicken lolypop's and veggies turned out ok. I have had fish curry before and loved it. But this Fish Curry was made with a very strong tasting fish and believe me thats all you tasted was the fish. You could not taste the curry
The salad was swimming is mayonnaise and was about 80% onions. As for the roti, well it was good, but extremely small. It reminded me of a small soft shell taco shell (about 6 inches across). The chief (Bishan Singh Rawat)can out and asked us how we liked the meal and we told him about the curry. Instead of sayings something nice or even offering to replace it. His comment was westerners should not order fish curry. They should stick to chicken or beef curry.
Yes chef prepares authentic Indian food and speaks English. However he could not make the dish specified upon my request. He indicated 2 more of his staff must come from Indian before he could cook special requests.
So I would suggest for now you should pass on this one until it is fully staffed and offering a full menu. Remember the fish curry is not like the fish curry made at Indian restaurants in places like Singapore.
March 30, 2008: Went back after hearing some good comments from a couple of friends. Must say it has improve a great deal. I will be going back.... The Roti is the size I would expect based on other Indian restuarants. The Chicken Masala and it was great. The veggie curry was good as well. My next trip there I will ask it to be a bit more spicy, just they way the chef would make it for his family...
I even ordered Tandoori Chicken which is not on the menu. It was good, but could have marinaded a little longer to get more of the spice flavor into the chicken. Yes I did stay away from the fish curry
My compliments to the Chef and YES I did change my rating. However cost is still a little high.
I recent took my wife to the Fisher Man's Wharf on her birthday. We tried various food that all tastes wonderful. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone for that special occasion. However make sure you bring a local friend along as the menu is not in English and the staff speaks very little English. So if you do not bring someone who can read the menu you are ordering from pictures.
