DalianXpat.com focuses on life in and around Dalian.
Our primary intention is to help, serve and support the International community and our local friends.
Been there twice, first experience with the food wasn't so good, or should be disappointing. My second experience is much better, guess the food choice is much better.
The steamed chicken was totally out. So there goes my hainanese chicken crave...
The curry mutton, not bad, spicy.
The chilli crab, I find it not bad at all, although not exactly like what we have back home....Pepper crab is also not bad, can try.
The stewed vermicilli (fen si) with squid also taste good.
Fried penang kuay teow is good, although short of our usual clams, there were bit of local clams in it, which I guess it's okay.
The grilled squid is way too sweet for my liking, but nonetheless, the whole squid vanished, so some of my friends do love it.
Think most of the pork/ meat dishes are not that tasty as the seafood dishes...
Lesser the oil, I think most singaporeans would love the food better.
On the whole, this experience is better than the last.
Won't mind eating there again, this time I do know what to order...Maybe just for the chilli crab..
We went upstairs preparing to just see a few singers baring out a few song, but the performance is just great! Dancers accompanying the singers, costume change, and the singers belted out a variety of songs, ranging from mandarin, cantonese, english and japanese.
Young locals dancing to the songs. However the break interval is a bit too long, as there was a total of about 5 singers, so I thought it could have been shorter. Oh.. the music is a bit too load for comfort, but since the youngsters love it, guess I'm too old...Can't appreciate the loudness like them.
But I enjoyed their performaces greatly. The crowd mainly are young chinese, however I could see some middle aged chinese also.
Had a peep downstairs in the disco, saw mainly young chinese crowd, all dancing happily to the techno music. A place mad for people who really enjoyed dancing... Not for me, too old, and can't dance, don't like techno also..
Drinks price slightly higher than places like Viper...But not really very much... 680RMB for a bottle of chivas and 4 bottles of green tea, but we were given a complimentary plate of fruit platter and cuttlefish, as there was no package for chivas.
I would not mind visiting the place again for the perforamces upstairs but would pass on the downstairs Disco.
Great selection of german beer, great ambience, very cosy place.
I had pumpkin and walnut soup to start with, creamy and simply delicious, not salty though, which is a fresh change with most soups I had elsewhere.
I had pork knuckers for main dish, not exactly what I expected. Half of it was done nicely, crispy skin and not so fatty inside very tender, but the other half was not so crispy, and a thick layer of fat still embedded inside. The pork knuckle is not a knuckle, it's the portion above the knuckle, so it's huge!!!
The sauerkraut accompanying the dish is great!!! Very fresh and crispy, not like most places where it's soggy.
The mashed potatoes is great also, very smooth and creamy too, yummy...
We ordered 3 different dessert, but only one we really love, a hot chocolate mousse with ice cream, forgot what it's called though...I couldn't have enough of it!!!
The cheesecake was so-so, the cheese quite ok, but a bit too salty, but the base crust is too sweet for comfort.
The tiramisu is a disaster.... had a bite and gave up on it. Not smooth, no taste of rum....just not...
My friend had the German curry sausage, not bad too.
Although we were pretty satisfied with the food on the whole, the serving of food was a bit hay-wired. The dessert arrived before my friend's main course, so she had the dessert first.
Might visit again to try something else... Although German food to me is sausages, pork knuckles and beer.....not to mention sauerkraut..
Had dinner here with a friend tonight. Ordered a cawan mushi(steamed egg) each, a cold soba (wheat noodle), a sashimi platter, a mixed tempura platter, a california sushi, a raw tuna salad, 4 ebi sashimi (prawn), a agadeshi tofu, and free flow of green tea.
All in cost about 340RMB, which I feel is reasonable. The sashimi platter itself costs about 100 RMB, which I don't see in many places, especially it's very fresh, and also the service persons here are all very attentive to our requests.
We sat at the sushi counter, so we had a chat with the chef and end up with complimentary sushi, and left us so full, we could hardly walk, but we had a great time.
I definitely will visit again, and next time I will go for the sukiyaki.
Been there twice, nice cosy place with great pizzas, and spagettis.
Had a few swings of cocktails, all done up nicely.
Wish they had Saporro beer, it's the best Japanese beer....sad. Can't seem to find this beer anywhere in Dalian.
They only have Asahi, not my fav, no Kirin also....
Cocktails - Warning - Never try the Long Island Tea.... Just not right, no lemon juice, just a squit of freshlemon, so the taste is totally out....
Wished they had frozen magaritas, but the one served is good and strong..
General crowd would be japanese, and music played are also japanese ballads, I really don't mind, wonderfully soft, great for conversation. However, they do switch to english ballads when they see foreigners in the house.
Had a great time there, and definely would not mind being there again, service superb!! Oh and cheap too, really really affordable for a good feed!!
