Not THAT good...,  Saturday, 31 March 2007

- Went there with my collegue, we have been watching the former russian bar evolving into "Riviera", and gave it a try.

Food looked nice and there were always plenty of baguette bread (the long breads that all french people buys every morning)with some good butter. In fact, the best baguette I have had in Dalian.
Portions are small, so perhaps big guys need to add with some more another place after visiting this restaurant, unless the credit card is filled up completely.
My collegue ordered "set of 6 mussels" and a wienerschnitzel. He went sick three hours later, and we had to break up our happy evening...
Two of the things we ordrered was not available, and the waitress didn't knew that !

Ambience is ok, looks like a spanish upscale restaurant. However, the light was too dark, so we couldn't see much of the things on the table.

The restrooms was not marked in any way, only an "EXIT" sign above. There was a big step up, not clearly marked, so when I went out, I was nearly falling. Mark this step better !
However, the only pissoirs in China I have seen with ice cubes ! (Maybe just a coincidence...)

The owner, an australian woman with very short white hair went to our table three times. First time to explain all of the menu, next to see if we were happy, and asked what we had ordered, and third time to see if we were satisfied. The last time she couldn't remember what we have ordered.  I had a glass of white wine for my sea bass fish, the food and the of the wine was ok. But, ehh, 65 RMB is a little steep in my mind for a glass of wine... The service was slow, even there was lots of fuwuyuan's.
They forgot the most we ordered.

In the kitchen (very visible) there were 12 (twelve) chefs !!!
(An old saying in my country is that "too many chefs destroy the food.)

Looking in the menu, it it not easy for the average customer to figure out what the food IS.
And the owner apparently thinks it is a hotel restaurant, because she have the nerve to add 15% in "service fee", even the prices is very expensive.
Can be a surprice if you forget to notice the bottom lines in the menu....

I will only go to "Riviera" again when she have improved a lot, and I pay by the company representing account !
560RMB for 2 persons (incl. 15%) was definitely not worth it.
