Authentic Taiwanese Food in Dalian,  Monday, 25 February 2008

Very authentic Taiwanese Style Cooking. Especially the San Bei Ji (Three Cup Chicken - Basil Cooked Chicken with Garlic Ginger and Rice Wine in Casareole) which we missed very much since leaving Shanghai (where we were the frequent patrons of Jojo Restaurant).

The BBQ Pork is fairly good considering that this is not supposed to be a full fledged Hong Kong or Cantonese restaurant.

The price is extremely reasonable. Just wondering when they can branch into other neighbourhoor like KFQ in Dalian.

The ambience is excellent with very attentive service by a team of young staff.

Will be a regular visitor there from now although it is a fair distance from the Dalian City Centre. Cost me 30 Yuan by taxi from the Railway station.

Fishfish,

Dont you have any mistaken belief that I am anyone other than a full blue fair dinkum Malaysian living in Brisbane for the last 2 years. I used to live in Taiwan, PNG and many other countries but always make it a point to return to Malaysia, and I did lived there from 1992 to 2003 when I left for good. During those times when it was the biggest boom town in SE Asia I tasted some of the best food Malaysia could offer.

When I had an entertainment budget of MYR 22K per month, I sure knew what I was looking for and could afford to be picky.

Believe me I know what is the best food, the best fruit and where to get them in Malaysia Singapore Australia and Shanghai.

Pretty Disappointing but who know in 6 months time,  Monday, 03 September 2007

I guess I may be picky having been spoiled in Brisbane and Shanghai where I have could get up to 80% of the SIngapore/Malaysian Style cuisine in terms of authenticity. But even if I was prepared to accept less than 50% in remote Dalian Lion City was disappointing.

The Char Kway Teow was way too salty and wet, "soggy" according to my son. The Indonesian Prawn curry was passable. The "roti canai" came without curry, which according to the Waiters there was the "Dalian" style, obviously it was not to be.

What was more disappointing was the lack of "Tiger" Beers or Carlberg or Guiness which must be the staple drink for any food joint who want to give the client the Singapore Feel, I dare not asked to "Singapore Sling". The service was very slow and lethargic with most waitress idling around chatting. May be I was not very forgiving as the night we were there was a Friday night with all the rooms fully booked. They were busy.

About the only saving grace was the Seafood Mix Pot, with fish, mussels and seaslugs cooked to near perfection. But then is that a Singaporean Dish...I beg to differ.

Will I visit again....may be in 6 months time when I am overcome by the longing for some SE Asian food. I will fly to Shanghai or Brisbane....
