I've finally decided to return David Laris' nine million phone calls and will be doing a lunch with him this Saturday. You can come too if you want. He's also invited over Dean Brettschneider, a master baker patissier and the pair will be taking us on a fantastic culinary cooking class voyage, signing some books, and then we'll all have lunch upstairs at
Laris. It starts at 11:00 at Space by THREE. It costs 288rmb per person but that includes a canape/champagne reception, cooking class, and a three-course luncheon.
Tack on another 15rmb and you get my signature along with David's on David's books.
Call 6321 9922 for reservations. Seating is limited. And wear something nice, for God's sake.

Local DJ B6 will be taking a break from his national tour and dropping in to
Anar bar this Saturday for an after-hours set. The man just returned from Wuhan playing to a great turnout of around 300 kids. If you missed the album release party last month, head on down to the backroom at Anar to check out his newer stuff off his latest record "Post Haze." Starts 2am. No cover.
His tracks was also featured in a previous MP3 Monday
here.
Three cheers to piracy!
Big Bamboo will be showing the Oscar De La Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao fight live this Sunday at 10am. De La Hoya (39-5, 30 KOs) has repeatedly said the fight would be the last bout of his long and celebrated career (world titles in a stunning six weight divisions), so you should set you alarm clocks, skip church, or do whatever it is that you have to do to catch the legend in his last fight.
It should be a good one though. Pacquiao is no slouch and is a lightweight titleholder who has won belts in five weight classes. He's moving up to welterweight for the fight with De La Hoya.
Good times, this Sunday morn at the Big Bamboo. Kill! Kill! Kill!

"All this and more we leave behind, some memories are now ghosts, their stories ended, some will survive to evolve into new fascinating futures."
That's heavy. A nightlife institution in Shanghai,
Face on Ruijin Lu has announced via ruminating email from FnB manager Alberto Nonis that they'll shutter their doors for the last time on December 14, 2008. Situated in the Rujin Hotel, Face has been around for ten years, which predates the Maoming Lu years, said email reminds us. Nonis alludes to the ongoing construction in the area and the decimation of the neighborhood atmosphere as the reason for the closing of Face.
Plans are underway for a relocation: ¡°As soon as negotiations permit, we hope to be able to discuss with you our new venue in which we will recreate the best of ¡°Face.¡±
Good luck to them. Chin chin.

The new issue of Shanghai Talk is out now, so pick that up wherever you see it, should you be so inclined. This month's cover story is an in-depth piece on Emma Pei, the first Chinese supermodel. They've also gotten a hold of the smoldering Daniel Craig to discuss with him things Bond-related, and the most famous pair of sunglasses in the world, Yoko Ono.
And it's another glossy cover one. Shine on, Shanghai Talk.

This Thursday
Muse hosts hip hop MC
Royce Da 5'9, who comes straight from Detroit to be with us. Royce Da 5'9, you might remember, was a bit of a song-stealer on that first Eminem album, "The Slim Shady LP." The pair have since had a failing out as a result of some lyrics that Royce was writing for Eminem and D12, but you will be pleased as punch to hear that they've recently "squashed it" and are rumored to be working on a comeback track together with DJ Premier producing.
Why am I telling you this? If you like the hip hop muzak Royce is a bit of a big deal -- so big in fact, that even I know who he is. He'll be at Muse as part of their Seventh Iron Mike freestyle competition, which is allegedly like
8 Mile but with Chinese characteristics. Starts 9pm.
