Great place to bring your girlfriend/ wife for anniversaries.
Great ambience and great service and great food.
Order the set meal it's only about 200RMB, however if order dishes individually, then it'll cost much more.
I have a great time there, and definitely will be back again.
A Japanese chef offering Italian cuisine in a Chinese coastal city? And it works! Nico is like no other Italian place you've been to. The staff set the bar high, and they're still trying to reach the standards they mark out for themselves: as they set the table or bring the food, they're sometimes hesitant, and even give each other advice and encouragement in an undertone, half forgetting about you, the customer! The effect is actually charming and quite impressive. Set menu or a la carte? Go a la carte, because one of the mains on the set menu is less successful than the rest of the excellent offerings - I refer to the beef patty with egg. This is a formula the Japanese love, but it doesn't work for me: it's just a hamburger with a fried egg. The halibut carpaccio starter is simply superb, however: the chef's Japanese skills with raw fish marry perfectly with the Italian carpaccio concept, and the result is really memorable. The wine prices are sky-high, to the point of absurdity, but fortunately the house wine is very palatable and only RMB 180 a bottle. Overall, a terrific little place that will surprise and delight you.

A taste of Italy..Japanese style, Tuesday, 15 July 2008
Although, I wanted to keep this restaurant as a secret hiding place, I must be honest and share with all of you this excellent place. It is located in a old restaured house with 2 floors, a terrace and a secret bar (located in the cellar). Being managed by a Japanese chef manager, the food is very simple, the choice is still small (open recently) but the taste is authentic. For lunch, it only serves 3 set menus at RMB 45, 55 and 65. A glass of wine at RMB 35. The choice the menu is 3 courses with a delicious mini minestrone, a salad (try the French dressing) and a spaghetti (the garlic/ chili one is tasty)or a pizza full of melted cheese and on the "expensive choice" the OX tongue. The menu includes either a glass of orange juice or a coffee. For dinner, there is a small a la carte at very good value. The service is very green, so do not worry. A must try....
