As we all know, Dalian is full of construction sites. Two of most promient are Eton Place (downtown) and Times Square (Ren Min Lu, next to Furama).
Until last fall, Eton Place a was big hole, a very big hole, diagonally across from Qing Ni Wa Qiao
Financed by Mr. Chen Yang Zai, the richest man in the Phillipines, the five buidling complex has three apartment buildings (47 floors), a serviced apartment (60 floors) and an office tower (80 floors) with 2 5-star hotels, NE China's tallest under construction. But the site's origins are more humble: until fairly recently it was the Dalian city zoo. It is said that one reason the site stayed vacant so long was that there was a spirit of a huge snake that inhabited that area. The three apartment residences will be ready by next year, while the hotels are scheduled to open in 2011. Apartments start at 15,500 rmb per square meter.
Not to be outdone, Times Square futher east on Ren Min Lu will be home to several luxury brands (Louis Vitton, Dior, Geiorgio Armani, Zara to name just a few)
The frst residentail tower (34 floors, 270 apartments) will open 1Q 2009. The larger tower (47 F, 400 apartments) will follow. Prices also 15,000 rmb per square meter. Don't know the cost of the 500 parking spaces.
Similar pricing for Champs Elysees towers just west of train station.
Gee, wasn't it only three years ago that 4500 rmb per square meter was a steep price?
