don't go on busy days!, Tuesday, 04 September 2007

The theme park itself is not bad. Don't be expecting Disney World or anything like that, but they do have a few decent rides and an action show with jumping motorcycles and other stunts. I didn't see any characters dressed up greeting children, maybe they only have those at certain times. If you go on a weekday (not weekend or holiday) then it's probably enjoyable, but I don't recommend doing what we did. We went on a Saturday evening because the price drops to 100RMB after 5:00 p.m. Unfortunately, endless mobs of people had decided to go the same route. After waiting about an hour and a half for tickets to even get into the park, we had to choose which 1 ride we wanted to go on because they all had extremely long lines. As if waiting several hours in line at theme parks back home is not annoying enough, imagine adding in the China factor! Literally every few minutes there are groups of people cutting in front of you and no one even blinks an eye. They think that if they have a friend in the front of the line they are automatically entitled to jump over the railing in front of everyone else who has been waiting for hours. Even the Russians have learned to play the game. We were approached several times by people assuming we were Russian just because we are white and trying to convince us to pretend we were their friends so they could cut in. If you're not used to this system (or lack thereof) it's just about enough to drive a person mad.
So if you do go, I suggest making it on a weekday.

Lots of fun!, Saturday, 09 June 2007

It is a bit far away for those living downtown but it’s worth-while. There is fun and adventure for the entire family. The park opened last year and they are saying it’s the biggest theme park in China. We’ve been there twice so far and we definitely didn’t get bored. The entertainers, the vendors and the rest of the staff are absolutely amazing. The costumed characters are greeting you everywhere entertaining the kids and posing for everyone who wants to take pictures with them. Some of the main themes are: The Arabian Land with the Mysterious Desert, The Magic Forest, The Castle, Discovery square,The American Street. The little ones can enjoy lots of rides:cars,trains,balloons,Mary-go Roud and also some indoor themed play grounds. The teenagers and the grown-ups can enjoy a variety of activities starting with a nice show with car chasing, shootings, fire and lots of other stunts. Then get soaked on a boat ride, get dry driving a car in the desert, try a roller coaster ride and many other adventures in between.
You don’t have to pack any snacks. There are restaurants and fast-foods everywhere. Inside the castle they even have an Italian restaurant (I didn’t try it).We only tried the indoor restaurant from the Arabian World and the food was very good (chinese not arabian).
For the lazy ones there is some transportation inside the park. You can pick up a train which connects some of the park’s areas or you can rent a kind of scooter (actually looks like one of those motorized chairs used by handicapped people) .I think you can also rent strollers for the little ones.
For those interested I added some pictures in "Dalian Photos"(2006-2007)gallery.Enjoy!
