Rock Nights Rock, Saturday, 29 December 2007

I went to their Rock Charity Performance and I had a lot of fun! Everyone was telling me that the rock scene in China is virtually non-existent, so I went there expecting to watch some lame pop rock covers, but boy was I pleasantly surprised! Their metal bands were really good, and the punk bands were a whole lot of fun!

The crowd was composed of what seemed to be college students (and a number of them could speak English, so I was able to have a few short casual conversations here and there). They all do simultaneous headbanging while holding on to each other and bowing very low. I felt the urge to join in and was warmly welcomed. The moshing was fun but still friendly. I tripped over a fallen guy and almost fell over myself, but the nice Chinese boys caught me and helped me back up. Also be prepared to have your hand suddenly grabbed as you're made to join a high-speed version of "ring around the rosie" when the punk bands are playing.

The beer was cheap enough at 10 RMB per bottle. Wasn't able to try to food though since it doesn't look like a comfortable place to eat (the bar stools didn't have backs, so finding a place to dump my coat was also a problem).

Will definitely go back if I hear of another rock night coming on ^_^

fun game night, Friday, 31 August 2007

I haven't been there on a Sunday night yet, so I didn't see the rock scene. Someone told me they re-arrange the furniture for different occasions. I went this Wednesday for their Game Night and had a good time. There were lots of comfy red couches around tables, with some people playing card games. They also have a pool table, snooker, foosball, and darts.
We were the only ones there when we arrived early, but after 9:00 or 10ish people started coming in, drinking and mingling. There was a good mix of foreigners and Chinese. T he D.J. played fun & upbeat music. They had beer and a wide range of mixed shots (but no English drink menu); and they don't have food, only snacks like sunflower seeds.
It is a little hard to find if you're not familiar with the area. Maybe someone who knows it could post more detailed directions?
Overall, I really liked the atmosphere and I'll definitely go back.

Oops whats this??, Wednesday, 29 August 2007

By pure accident I went there with a few coworkers this Sunday (25th Aug)
There was a Chinese rock band playing when we arrived. (Was quite packed at around 9ish) GREAT... I mean.. rock is hard to find here in China.

If you like cheap beer in a very relaxed setting in the "old dirty warehouse" style and you also enjoy a nice mix of Foriegners and Chinese hanging out with a love for the more rockish music Hopscotch is the place to go. The staff was smiling and friendly and spoke quite ok english. Totally get 2 thumbs up from me.

I gave em 5 in foods because well.. its a bar and dont know if they sell any... but sure they have snacks and what not.
(2 cons... the live band was WAY to loud.. volume wise.. and I mean ear explodingly.. normal music was perfect... second they dont sell cigs.. but if you turn right when you exit theres a store like 400m up the road across the street)

Recommended! An awesome place!, Wednesday, 04 July 2007

Though it's a little bit hard to find, you'll like it! I liked the sunlight shining through the small window. Just relax on the red sofa, do nothing, and idle a whole day away! Awesome music!
