This is an open letter to the English-speaking business community in Liaoning seeking to gauge interest in forming an International Chamber of Commerce in Shenyang. The goal in establishing a broader Liaoning International Chamber of Commerce is to bring together the foreign community in Liaoning by developing a basis for networking, cooperation and information collection and distribution. Specifically, the proposed Chamber of Commerce will: (1) Create a forum where foreign businesses can collectively advocate the interests of member companies to the local and provincial governments; (2)Provide information and resources to foreign companies seeking to invest or further develop in Liaoning Province; (3) Open network opportunities to share perspectives and experiences on doing business in Liaoning; (4) Attract local and national speakers to give panel discussions and lectures on issues of importance to the Liaoning international business community; (5) Disseminate regular news alerts in English and Chinese of recent events affecting businesses in Liaoning; and (6) Host community-building social events and activities for members and guests and publish information on cultural events taking place in Liaoning.
As Northeast China continues along a path of "revitalization" and growth, the presence of foreign investment and businesses in Liaoning continues to grow. If one has been in Shenyang for more than a year, it's hard not to notice the many changes in the city (most notably the rapid development in Hunnan, the new skyscrapers popping up around the city and the new subway.) Despite this development however, there is still no organization representing the collective interests of the foreign business community.
Given sufficient interest, we intend to organize the Liaoning International Chamber of Commerce as a non-profit, member supported organization under Chinese law. We hope you share our belief that this organization will be a valuable tool in improving and developing both the international business and social atmosphere for foreigners living in Shenyang.
