This place is like home if you like the relaxing atmosphere of a major city bar. It is relaxing, entertaining and XIAO HAN is a wonderful hostess (she is the owner). It doesn't seem like Bug Bar has caught on too much yet but I think it is a wonderful hangout for peole that like Hong Kong, NY, Chicago, London etc.

This is by far the best place I have been to in Dalian. Too bad it opened in only July this year - where were you before, bug bar?!

If you like relaxed European style bars or enjoy the high-end places in Shanghai, you would certainly love the bug bar.

First of all, the whole environment is like nowhere else in Dalian. The design of the establishment is extremely re-freshing and modern, as opposed to any bar in the city. Not only it's new in terms of how long it's opened for business, but it's also new in style and decoration ideas. The post-modern and European taste will most likely give you a different feeling that you couldn't find else where.

The drinks are excellent and staff very professional. The owner (I think) had been living in Europe and the States for the past 10 years before returning to her hometown and established the Bug Bar. She speaks English well and so do her staff, which is also a refreshing change for an expat living in Dalian.

Overall, it's a terrific place for gathering with friends, hosting parties with people from the office, as well as a place to take the clients to after dinners.

I have thoroughly enjoyed your existence, Bug Bar, and thank you!

I agree with the previous review.

A very nice bar, similiar to those popular in shanghai (where I moved from.) A great place to bring clients that is not a hotel bar.

Fast service, friendly (but not obnoxious) English speaking staff.

Cocktails were in the 30-40rmb range, not bad considering. Music was only unreasonably loud when I went, instead of drive out clientele load.

Has a lot of potential, esp. if they go with some slightly cooler music and drop the volume a little.

You have to look for it though, it is hard to find.

If you're not looking for it, you're not going to find it, because Bug Bar (www.bugbarchina.com) is tucked away in the newly-renovated, mostly-empty Minzhu Square and not visible from the street. But once you find it, you'll be in for a pleasant surprise.

A great alternative to other options available in Dalian, Bug Bar is a hip place to go if you want to talk to and actually hear what your friends are saying. Music is lounge-chic, that compliments the trendy interior design. On a couple of the nights I've been there, an acoustic guitarist was playing upstairs (this bar has three levels).

Looking for a up-an-coming trendy place to impress a date? This would be the place to go. The spacious, mostly-dark interior provides an intimate environment for those looking to chill out after dinner.

The bar is stocked with a variety of the staples for any cocktail lounge, but still has a few gaps mainly because the management is still trying to understand the tastes of their clientele. However if you make a request for a certain type of alcohol, they'll try their best to find it.

Because if its location, it is still relatively unknown. On my several nights there, it was mostly empty. One night, my co-workers and I outnumbered the staff. But don't let this discourage you. The friendly and attentive staff are always happy talk with whomever walks in the door. Once Minzhu Square picks up with more businesses and more clientele, it's not hard to see that Bug Bar will become a good anchor to the entire neighborhood.

Those of us who have relocated to Dalian after an extended stay in Shanghai, Bug Bar provides hints and reminders of Shanghai without the pretentiousness or the price tag.
