Hopefully, the most humid part of August is over. Many students and teachers away. My favorite street produce market is closed. But Davos is around the corner(September 6 – 9), followed byFashion Festival and Dalian seems to be doing everything possible to spruce itself it up.

Have you noticed the new, comfortable benches (with backs) in Qing Ni Wa Bridge. Small Jazz Bar is about to open this weekend. Upstairs has the bar and there is a small room downstairs. No live music, could be quiet place for conversation or romance, very near DUFL. Owner worked in China's financial services industry before, so this must be something he wants to do. Leone's has started it's Sunday Brunch, any reviews? The foreign magazine collection is good.
Tried Tina Coffee , a western coffee house with real carrot juice and good pumpkin bread. For a brief moment thought I had returned to California. The coffee house also an art collection and is trying collect books in English. Netapp , storage solutions company, is coming to Dalian and will be in first company in software park phase 2 owner by Ascendas. Welcome.
Visted the Bug Bar , which seems like a cozy, upscale bar near Min Zhu Square, with 3 floors. It's in a new complex and there will several other bars and restaurants nearby. One of these coming (late October/November) will be the Brooklyn bar/bistro, operated by ABC(American Born Chinese).
Had an interesting conversation with Mr. Lv, owner of Oriental Vision Communication Co.,Ltd., publisher of Traveler's Guide to Dalian. After 20 years of working for municipal government, he formed a book publishing/advertising company. He has a very large collecton of Dalian photos (maybe you've seen the postcards?) and an interesting fellow. He agreed to make his Dalian book available to DalianXpat members at a discount from the usual 70 rmb (details to follow).

Fireboard Forum - How is it? A few things to fix up, but we are working on it. Please report problems in forum. Several people have asked about the chat room. It's ready, but our plan is to use it for scheduled public events. For example, a guest speaker from business or government or famous in some way will take questions from the audience and give answers. Any suggestions? How is picture of day? We welcome more uploads.
Local Bands – We've added several to the Dalian Directory (thanks PP), and we'll soon have a link to sample mp3 files. Dalian's nascent music scene seems to on verge of becoming more vibrant and hope someone will want to cover it for us.
