Ambiance and Seafood, Wednesday, 06 August 2008

Written by chinamustard   -  View all my reviews  - Top 50 Reviewer

I brought a few friends from around China to this place which proved to be the clincher for a great time in Dalian. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys sashimi (raw fish) and scallops. Oh man, the scallops topped with marinara sauce (available in a side bowl) is what I concentrate on.

I rank the service high because my plate was replaced every time I left the table. Ambience also ranks high because of the light music in the background. I don't know what other kind of music you'd expect at a high class buffet! Most of the expensive buffets I've been to in the U.S. tend to have pleasant lighter sounding music.

The cost of dinner fit the level of food, ambience, and service.

Bad experience...unfortunatly, Thursday, 31 July 2008

I'm sorry to say I've had a somewhat bad impression of this restaurant. We went fo a team dinner in the basement where there is a buffer. It was pretty expensive (148RMB each), but the food was pretty ok. Not fancy, but hey...it's a buffet.
The ambiance was a bit weird as there were some musicians playing romantic mousic, which was not realy suitable for a buffer.
The thing that pissed us off though is that one of us dropped a plastic cover they put over someones place to keep it warm while they were going for another round of food and it broke. When paying the bill (over 1100RMB) without asking, they charged us 80RMB for the plastic cover. There was no discussion possible, this was standard procedure according to them...needless to say we will not be visiting them again...

Very Good T-Bone Steak, Tuesday, 22 July 2008

Written by Coltsfan   -  View all my reviews  - Top 50 Reviewer

This classy restaurant, known as the Left Bank to the locals was impressive. The Chef's salad, seafood fried rice with soup, and a 12 oz T-Bone came to 210 RMB. The T-Bone was served so hot the waiter held a napkin over me to make sure I wouldn't get spattered with the juices. The accompanying veggies were sparse but the chef's salad was good and the steak the best I have had in China--not that I've found that many to have. Got there too late for the lunch buffet--it closes at 2. The setting is beautiful as it overlooks the sea at Xinghai Square. Outside is the Poets' Walk with quotes etched in glass and back-lit at night for a nice stroll.
