Have been to Luke's three times now.
First time was to have a pair of jeans made, from a pair I was wearing. Fit of the tailored ones is definitely NOT tailored...bum is too big, doesn't fit my waist quite right, and zipper is very cheap. They were too long, he did fix that after I asked for them to be shortened.
Went a second time to get 2 dresses made, again brought an original to copy from. Dresses were to be made from silk, to be made exactly the same as the original. One is too big and hem is crooked. The other is too small. Both have obviously been 'resewn' since I can see where the original stitches were and the silk has pulled. Both also have puckered seams and hems. I told Luke about this, but I will still need to buy more silk and I don't see a reason to waste my money.
Final time was to get some lounge pants made. Just too big overall, even though all my measurements were taken. Again, no reason to have them remade since I'll just have to buy more fabric and I still have no guarantee they'll be right.
While Luke does speak English and will help you buy fabric, I'm not pleased with the quality of garments he's produced for me.

Luke, the tailor at Erqi Square, Sunday, 22 June 2008
You win some. You lose some. Based on Xiaoxue's review (January 18, 2008), I visited Luke at ErQi Square to get a blouse and pair of slacks made. The blouse turned out to be too tight and the slacks too loose. So much for a tailor-made outfit to fit MY measurements. I have subsequently had the slacks adjusted by a seamstress who has a shop near my home (because Luke's shop is too far away to return for adjustments.) Will I use this tailor again? Most definitely NO.

Good quality clothes and friendly service, Friday, 18 January 2008
I first met English-speaking tailor Luke before Christmas when my American friend took me to his shop. I was sceptical as first but she raved about him so I decided to give it a go and ordered a pair of lined wool trousers and an evening style top. Luke measured me and then took me around the market to find fabric. There is a HUGE selection and it can be a bit overwhelming. He bargained for me and the total price will include the price of the fabric plus the workmanship charge. It totalled about 300 yuan. Ten days later (not good if you like instant gratification from shopping!) I came back to collect the stuff and found the quality to be excellent. The trousers were too big but Luke adjusted them until they were perfect.
There's really no limit to the things you can have made. Just use your imagination and maybe take along a magazine picture. Highly recommended.
Note: Luke speaks some English but it is limited so be patient with him.
