DalianXpat.com is a community website, focussed on life in Dalian from the perspective of a foreigner.
Our primary intention is to assist the foreign community in Dalian and our local friends. We cannot emphasize 'community' enough. All of the information on the site it submitted by members, be it 'what to do', 'bar reviews' or the lowdown on the latest company in Dalian. While this site has administrators, the admins do not dictate the direction DalianXpat travels in. This is a website for the community, and if the community says DalianXpat.com should do something, DalianXpat.com will do it.
History: Started as a simple forum in late 2004, DalianXpat.com slowly began to draw a crowd. The need to organize information better was clear for all to see - valuable information was getting buried and lost. A painful but necessary move to new software was made in mid 2006
Vision: For this website to contain all useful information for the those of us who live and work or visit Dalian. What's useful is defined by you - the members and our contributions. More than that, we want DalianXpat.com to be as much as an offline community as an online one. Join us for Sunday coffee mornings, regular evening events. Or help us plan the next event or even a conference.
Future:
- We're recently opened a 'reviews' section, initially targeted at bars and restaurants, but to be expanded to shops, sports, business services in an attempt to get reviews and experiences organized and easily searched. This is intended to integrate with our map. Improving the quality of information by 'filling in blanks' can be a tedious task for our volunteers, so apologies if some information seems incomplete, we are seeking to change that.
- Appearance of the site is always something to work on. If you have any ideas please get in touch.
- New features are welcomed. An exciting development is the site is pictures/photos. A picture describes a thousand words. They're great for the newcomer or to help the long term resident to sit back and take a new perspective. Of course, full credit will be attributed.
- Jobs! (and classifieds). Look out for a re-vamp of our job-listing framework, including the addition of a 'classified' listing.
- Business. Doing business in Dalian? Thinking of doing business in Dalian? Look out, we're here to help!
- Events. It would be nice to have an open-invite to meet a variety of different people, wouldn't it? The community has a lot to share together, but there seem to be (non deliberate) barriers between different groups of people, being connections, the bars visited, etc. We want to break them down and provide an open forum and potential for interested but separate parties to get in contact, directly.
- Forums. The forums will not be depreciated, They have been the centre of the site since day one, and are expected to remain so.
So there's quite a lot on the DalianXpat.com plate at the moment. If you think you'd be interested in any of the above, or have your own idea of something interesting to be, PLEASE get in contact.
If you have your own idea/want to do your own thing, that's great, and DalianXpat.com is here with the backing in terms of an online and offline presence that reaches a heck of a variety of people, in Dalian, across China, and beyond.
'We' refers to the members of DalianXpat.com, and the foreign community in Dalian as a whole. Why not work together to make Dalian a nicer place to work and live?
